Scottish Massage Therapists Organisations (SMTO)

The SMTO was formed in 1992 and since then has grown from strength to strength, and now covers the whole of Scotland, parts of England and Wales and beyond. The Scottish Massage Therapists Organisation (SMTO) exists to provide a service to the public, the Massage Therapist and the profession.

Shiatsu International (SI)

Shiatsu International is the professional body that represents professional Shiatsu practitioners. We represent members in various groups that are involved with natural (complementary or alternative) medicine. We promote Shiatsu as a therapy and we encourage professional excellence amongst our professional members.

Shiatsu Society (SS)

Established in 1981, the Shiatsu Society is the UK’s leading professional Shiatsu organisation. Shiatsu is a unique stand-alone complementary therapy which supports health and well being. We are committed to the spirit and ethos of shiatsu and the development of integrated and accessible healthcare.

Society of Holistic Practitioners (SHP)

The Society aims to act in the professional interests of its members and represent those interests to the public and to other professional bodies.

Sports Massage Association (SMA)

The English Institute of Sport along with other home country institutes and sports governing bodies found there was a significant demand for sports massage among sport participants. As a result in 1999 a Sports Massage Advisory Group was established to investigate the area. In January 2002 the Sports Massage Association (SMA) was launched as the professional body for Sports Massage Practitioners in the UK.

Teachers of the Alexander Technique (TAT)

Provides a list of teachers and information about the Alexander Technique, which teaches “right use” of the body to prevent strain and illness.

The Academy of On-site Massage (AOM)

The Academy of On Site Massage was established 20 years ago and since that time, has successfully trained hundreds of Practitioners in the techniques and marketing strategies of Seated Acupressure (On Site) Massage.

The Aromatherapists Society (AS)

The Aromatherapists Society has been formed by a group of eminent and long-standing people in the aromatherapy world for all people trained or training in aromatherapy, for their benefit and participation.

The Aromatherapy Council (AC)

A voluntary self-regulatory body for the aromatherapy profession within the UK. Its primary role is to protect the public and also to maintain the integrity of the profession. It sets minimum standards for professional training and practice. It also handles disciplinary matters and complaints concerning registrants’ fitness to practice.

The Association For Meridian Energy Therapies (AMT)

The Association For Meridian Energy Therapies, The AMT was formed in 1998 as the first non-profit umbrella organisation for the emergent field of Meridian Energy Therapies. Membership is open to those who have taken the Certification Trainings and Associate Membership to anyone who has an interest in the wider field of Meridian Energy Therapies and Energy Psychology in both theory and practise.

The Association of Natural Medicine (ANM)

The Association of Natural Medicine was established in 1983 by a group of friends and colleagues with a common interest in and enthusiasm for complementary medicine. Together they aimed to promote interest in the use of natural medicine through education, by offering quality courses, supporting registered practitioners and supplying a forum for debate.

The Association of Physical and Natural Therapist (APNT)

The APNT represents the following therapies: Acupressure, Aromatherapy, Bodywork, On-site Massage (APNT qualified graduates of the Academy of OSM only, Reflexology, Sports Massage, Sports Therapy, Swedish Massage, Therapeutic massage and Touch for Health.

The Association of Systematic Kinesiology (ASK)

The Association of Systematic Kinesiology (ASK) is the accrediting body for courses, schools and tutors. ASK is a charity, raising the awareness of Systematic Kinesiology and the great value Systematic Kinesiology has in preventative health care, for reducing pain and stress and for improving mental and physical health and well-being.

The Bowen Association UK (TBA)

The Bowen Association was set up in November 1997 at the request of Oswald and Elaine Rentsch, and is the European arm of the Bowen Therapy Academy of Australia. The Association is run by a committee of nine practitioners and Oswald and Elaine Rentsch are also directors.

The British Acupuncture Council (BacC)

The British Acupuncture Council provide our members with a wide range of services to facilitate their practice. We also act for the traditional acupuncture profession as a whole.

The British Autogenic Society (BAS)

The British Autogenic Society (BAS) is the professional and educational organisation for Autogenic Therapists in the United Kingdom. We have been established since 1984, and remain the first port of call for anyone wishing to know more about Autogenic Therapy in the UK.

The British Complementary Medicine Association (BCMA)

The BCMA welcomes all such therapists and associations who recognise the importance of working together within an umbrella group for the benefit of all. This embraces free expression, the sharing of ideas and resources and in particular, a focus on protecting the unique and holistic values of each therapy whilst embracing sensible regulatory parameters.

The British Reflexology Association (BRA)

The British Reflexology Association was founded in 1985 to act as a representative body for persons practising the method of Reflexology as a profession and for students training in the method. The Association also aims to help promote the practice of Reflexology in Great Britain and abroad.

The Complementary Healing Association (CHA)

The Complementary Healing Association (CHA) is a UK national charity (which now incorporates the Aromatherapy Health and Beauty Association) and was founded by it’s president JoAnn Bailey in 1965. The CHA encompasses Alternative Therapies and training to provide alternative care to all those in need.

The General Council and Register of Naturopaths (GCRN)

The GCRN was officially incorporated in 1965 as an independent registering body, but can trace its roots back to 1925 and the formation of the Nature Cure Society of Great Britain.

The General Regulatory Council for Complementary Therapies (GRCCT)

Practitioners on the National Register agree to abide by a Code of Professional Conduct and Ethics, are answerable to the GRCCT complaints and disciplinary procedures, maintain their training and knowledge with continuing professional development and have in force professional indemnity and public liability insurance. The complementary therapies regulated by GRCCT are practised by in excess of 50,000 practitioners in the UK.

The Hypnotherapy Association (THA)

The Hypnotherapy Association is a non-profit making organisation and is a leading independent professional body in Britain representing approved hypnotherapists in active practice.

The International Association of Colour (IAC)

The International Association of Colour (IAC) is a professional association for colour therapy practitioners, students and colour training centres. It is actively involved with the Institute for Complementary Medicine (ICM) and Foundation for Integrated Medicine (FIM).

The International Register of Consultant Herbalists and Homoeopaths (IRCH)

The International Register of Consultant Herbalists and Homoeopaths (IRCH) is a Traditional Herbal and Homeopathic College and Register of practitioners. We teach a holistic understanding to disease and it’s manifestation. Established for over 40 years.

The Reiki Association (RA)

The Reiki Association is a membership organisation open to anyone initiated into Reiki, offering community and support for students, masters and practitioners. Our Annual Gathering, smaller regional gatherings and one-day events allow Reiki people to get into contact with each other.

The Society of Homeopaths (SOC)

The Society of Homeopaths is the largest organisation representing professional homeopaths in Europe with over 1450 members on its register.

The Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique (STAT)

The Alexander Technique works by helping you to identify and prevent the harmful postural habits that aggravate, or may be the cause of, stress, pain and under-performance.

Thermo Auricular Association (T.A.Th.)

To act as the lead body representing the welfare of therapists and suppliers of Ear Candles. To establish guidelines for a common standard of training, and to ensure that tutors registered with the association provide appropriate standards of professional teaching, practice and conduct. To promote the responsible use of Ear Candles.

UK Polarity Therapy Association (UKPTA)

The UKPTA is the official member organisation for Polarity Therapists in the UK. All members are qualified Registered Polarity Practitioners. It also provides an overseas membership.

UK Reiki Federation

Established in 1999, the UK Reiki Federation is one of the largest independent Reiki organisations, renowned for its standards of excellence in the practice of Reiki.

The United Register of Herbal Practitioners (URHP) is a leading international register of professional herbal practitioners.
